NOUK – Figures Afloat [Vinyl]

While the 21st century circles around our heads, NOUK creates a very own orbit with their upcoming album “Figures Afloat”, which takes up the environment, but also spins it on in a thoughtful and imaginative way. You flow through the music, discovering colors, textures and landscapes that you want to sink into and yet you never loose the thread, the connection to reality and the connection to the core characters in “Figures Afloat”: the people who are close to you.
The Album is a mixture of relatable tales, abstract paintings, and inner streams of consciousness that was conceived during the pandemic. The musicians question the forces that move them, symmetry and structures, static existence and time as a construct. Philosophical reflections but also mundane stories of everyday life find their way into the lyrics.
How does it feel to be watching, powerlessly, as a loved one loses touch with reality? „Reality left behind, spread out memories like melting water“ (Artificial Lake). How would it feel to be able to buy a custom made friend from a shop? „Mesmerizing movements, too perfect to be human. You’re custom-made, built to meet my desire“ (Waltz for a Custom-Made Friend).
„Figures Afloat“ is a journey that keeps on developing. A story in which water is a recurring theme in which characters melt into each other effortlessly and in which the real meets the surreal, quietly. Like a reflection on the surface of the water. It presents a lovely parallel reality in which one likes to get lost. While modern day life encompasses us, NOUK creates their very own orbit on which they circle and pick things up from their surroundings and weave it into their own tale. One flows through their music, discovers colors, textures and landscapes while never losing the common thread that holds everything together.
