NOUK is an indietronic & chamber pop band based in Dresden and Leipzig. The band breaks with classic song structures without losing the charm and lightness of honest pop music. Sometimes string lines interweave with guitar and vocals to create a filigree poem setting, then drums, synth basses and circulating piano patterns build up into complex arrangements. Different influences merge in a very natural way to create a multi-faceted overall sound.
The quintet which is formed around the singer Anna-Lucia Rupp (Olicía), consists furthermore of the guitarist Max Grüner (Collector), drummer Felix Demeyere (Stegreif Orchester), cellist Alma Stolte (Tiefsaits) and the viola player Maria Körner (Gewandhaus Leipzig). NOUK is a unique combination of musicians from different fields and unites creative minds from their local scene. It is not out of the ordinary for the different members to leave their traditional roles and interpretation of their instruments behind. A classicallly trained viola player starts improvising to different drum grooves. The guitarist puts aside his folkloristic roots and starts creating polyrhytmic tapeloops. The quintet constantly explores new means of expression, to create soundscapes with a very personal touch.
